A decade of educational opportunity for more than 1,000 young Greeks

Public or private university? It’s a freighted choice that faces some young people in Greece, while for many others private education is simply not on the table due to financial constraints. But for the past decade, the Parallel Studies Program at Deree – The American College of Greece has given Greek public university students who would not otherwise have had the option a chance to enroll for a minor of their choice with support from the SNF Scholarship Program.

One step closer to a more inclusive society

A three-year cooperation agreement signed by Special Olympics International, Special Olympics Hellas, and the Hellenic Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports provides for the Ministry’s commitment to support the adoption of Special Olympics’ Play Unified: Learn Unified program at 90 additional schools, as well as support for mixed team sports. The agreement, which aims to strengthen inclusion for people with and without disabilities, is part of the Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion, which was created with SNF support.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Initiative Athens Hub was inaugurated at Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital earlier this month. Through an exclusive grant to the hospital, SNF supported the renovation of a building within the hospital complex to house the Athens hub of CAMHI’s Referral Network. The Athens hub is part of a nationwide effort encompassing four other hubs that have been established within public child psychiatric hubs in Alexandroupoli, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, and Crete. The program’s mission is to help enhance mental health care capacity and strengthen mental health infrastructure for children and adolescents in Greece. Find out more
